Dear Mr. Smits:

I know you’ve got a new hit TV show on this season, but I want to talk to you about The West Wing. I know that series got canceled more than a year ago, and I’m really late writing to you about this, but it’s really been on my mind lately. It was so cool that your character won the election! I was so looking forward to watching the President Santos administration play out on television, especially in contrast to all of this foolishness going on in the real world.

I think some people have talked before to Martin Sheen about running for office in real life, so I wanted to know if you’ve considered this, too? I bet you’d do really well if you ran for office. Actors do it all the time. You could even run for president! Fred Thompson is doing it, but I promise I’d vote for you — twice!

Please let me know if you’ll ever be running for anything. I’d be happy to go register to vote, so I can support you.
